Insomnia

From what was once a harmonious night,

Come nightmare seeking revenge on daylight.

To rush among the shadows in delight

Till fear within the waning moonlight boils

And hidden in the darkness waits to scream,

Perhaps for freedom from this hopeless world.

Or wake and know it’s only been a dream

In which their sanity was tightly curled.

Or open eyes to find sleep yet to come

Insomnia lurking in the shadows,

Taking tight grip, a once innocent soul,

Once tightly curled, sanity is now lost.

There is no peace when everything’s a war

Nor safety in a mind that swims with doubt.

Instead they’re eaten by their trust issues,

Thoughts only touching more dark shadows,

In turmoil that most have never seen

And sink into its darkness where they’re crushed,

Lost in a place where light has never shown,

Sleep never comes to the ones that come to.
